29 March 2006Pakeha Maori
Helen, I found this on a TVNZ page from 2004:TV ONE brings you this Waitangi Day special. In the early 19th century, adventurers, whalers and sealers came ashore in NZ and took their chances among the local Maori. These "Pakeha Maori" were integrated into tribes and depended on Maori for their livelihood and survival. In early historical accounts they were portrayed as unsavoury, promiscuous, drunkards and fighters. Yet contemporary historians are reworking the slurs and revealing a unique class of men and women who possessed the skills, courage and knowledge necessary to live and prosper in a warrior society. You can view the page for yourself, and request informtion here:http://www.tvnz.tx.co.nz/planit/issue6_2004/index.html(you'll need to scroll down a way to find it)

Hi Helen, Yes, there will be copies available - not quite sure just when, as it hasn't had its launch in Spain yet, or been translated into English. I will post ordering details on the "shop" page as soon as we get them.Peggy.

Kia Ora! While browsing this great site I noticed that my father and his brothers aren't listed as the issue of their parents. Their mother is Ane, daughter of Mereapu, grand daughter of Hori, great grand daughter of Mihi Taheke. Ane married Ralph Yates and had 3 sons, Rangi (Frank), John and Ariki (Reg or Riki). The sons had 3,4,and 2 children respectively. I am John's eldest child. The brothers are all grandfathers now too. Thought this info would help to keep your whakapapa up to date. Anyone wishing to contact me can do so at tara_yates@hotmail.com.
